Joe Charboneau
Head Instructor "Super
Joe" Charboneau made his debut with the Indians in 1980,
splitting time between left field and designated hitter. His 23 home
runs led the team and he captured the city's imagination with his hard
hitting and his eccentricities. By mid-season, Charboneau was the
subject
of a song--"Go Joe Charboneau"--that reached #3 on the local charts.He
finished the season with 87 runs batted in and a .289 batting average
while winning the American League Rookie of the Year award. He missed
the final six weeks of the season with a pelvis injury. Charboneau
injured his back in a headfirst slide in spring training
the following year, and he underwent back surgery twice but never
fully recovered, and the Indians released him in 1983. Charboneau spent
the previous eight years as a minor-league hitting coach.CEO/Instructor Kevin is originally from Dubuque, Iowa. He attended the College of St. Francis and was drafted in the 14th round by the Cleveland Indians in 1977. He made his Major League debut September 1, 1982. He retired in 1985 with a career batting average of .383. Kevin then became a scout for the Indians until 1990, where he took over as head coach for the Cleveland State baseball team. He would spend the next ten years as a college baseball coach. Kevin is currently doing minor league consulting, buying and selling minor league baseball teams. In 2007 Kevin also worked as part of the Lake County Captains radio broadcast team. Christopher Mongiardo Instructor/Head of Maintenance
2007 Player San Angelo Colts (ULB) Joe Rhomberg Instructor/ IT Manager Joe
is a native of Mentor, OH. He attended Lakeland Community College in
2002 and 2003. He was captain both years and in 2003 earned
all-regional team honors. He signed as a free agent with the
Sioux Falls Canaries (Northern League) in 2003. In 2005 he signed with
the Richmond Roosters (Frontier League) and played for the San Angelo
Colts (ULB) in 2006 and 2007. In 2007 he also bacame the hitting coach for the Colts.p p
John "Spark" Sankal Instructor
Spark was the varsity baseball coach at Eastlake North High School for 26 years. His teams" 439 wins are the most at a single school in Lake County history. The Mentor High and Bowling Green grad won coach of the year honors in 1989, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2001. A former Lake County Baseball Coaches Assn. President and Greater Cleveland Baseball Coaches Assn. League representative, Spark has worked baseball camps locally and in Florida, and has also assisted at tryout camps for the Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Royals. He has coached at all levels in the local summer leagues from ages six on up. In 2005, Spark was given the Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity Award by the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Retiring from teaching at North in 2005, Spark still coaches at North as a volunteer assistant, and coaches a summer team in the Erie Shores Collegiate Baseball League. j_sankal@uhitlive.com Evie Evans Fastpitch Softball Instructor Evie
specializes in fastpitch softball. She excelled as a pitcher and
shortstop in high school and college. In high school she earned the
Plain Dealer and News Herald Player of the Year award. She also
received the NEC Player of the Year award and was selected to the
All NEC team four times. Evie attended college at Baldwin Wallace where
she continued to do well. She set a school record of complete games on
her way to being selected to the All OAC team four times. She also made
the All Central Region Team twice and made the All-Tournament team
once. After college she has done some instruction and coached at John
Carroll.
